Building a New Deck in Stevensville, Maryland

This week’s Makeover Monday features a brand new deck installation in Queen Anne’s County. Our clients, located in Stevensville, wanted to expand their living space from indoors to outdoors. Tracy Ours, one of Fence & Deck Connection’s experienced Project Consultants helped design a cozy and functional space that fits nicely off the home’s sliding glass door.

BEFORE:

Our talented installation crew built a new 12′ x 14′ deck using TimberTech Edge Prime+ decking in Sea Salt Gray with a color matching feature board. Timbertech Edge Prime+ brings affordable, beautifully monochromatic decking to your outdoor living space with moderately varied hues. Featuring a subtle, straight grain pattern, the long-lasting, scalloped decking in this collection creates an authentic wood visual that is sure to impress.

White vinyl Washington-style railing with black aluminum black balusters safely enclose the new outdoor space, with one set of picture framed steps leading down to the backyard. Homeowners chose to install their deck with a DEK Drain system. Though an additional cost, deck drainage systems create a dry, usable space underneath your second-story deck while protecting your deck frame from moisture which can lead to wood rot and decay.

A lighting package of six white Saturn Anello cap lights and six white Corona riser lights illuminate the space which makes for a perfect after dark ambiance — an outdoor gathering doesn’t need to end when the sun goes down!

Instead of traditional lattice skirting, this deck was designed with vinyl skirting, also know as Carolina deck skirting. This design feature hides the structural supports, pipes, wiring, and other unsightly elements underneath the deck by using vertical or horizontal paneling. This helps create a clean and polished appearance, preventing these features from detracting from the deck’s beauty. By enclosing the space beneath the deck, skirting helps deter pests and critters from nesting or seeking shelter underneath. We also installed one access gate, which allows for plenty of under deck storage.
