Whether it’s building a deck from the ground up or refreshing an older structure, Fence & Deck Connection is proud to craft functional, beautiful upgrades that last for years to come This recent redecking project in Crofton is a great example of how the right materials and design touches can completely transform a backyard into a relaxing retreat.
Our clients in Crofton had an aging deck that was ready for a much-needed refresh. While the overall structure remained sound, the decking boards, railing, and stairs had seen better days. These wonderful homeowners wanted a cleaner, more modern look while keeping the layout and footprint of their existing deck. Led by Project Consultant Jake Wolod and Production Manager Ben Beares, our team got to work with a plan to update the finishes and enhance the deck’s safety, durability, and visual appeal.
Before:

We began by removing the existing railing, decking, and stairs to make way for new, low-maintenance materials. For the decking, the homeowners selected TimberTech composite decking in “Sea Salt Gray,” a soft and modern hue that perfectly balances cool tones with warm backyard charm. Not only does this composite material offer excellent durability and slip resistance, but it also resists fading, staining, and mold, making it ideal for Maryland’s varied climate. The deck boards alternated direction on the upper and lower decks, which creates a great artistic element and distinction for both spaces.
To finish the perimeter of the deck, we installed white textured fascia, creating a clean transition from the deck surface to the base and helping to protect the substructure. The updated space also includes white aluminum railing with square balusters, offering a sleek, contemporary look that’s both stylish and sturdy. The white finish complements the Sea Salt Gray decking beautifully and ties in with other white features around the property.
We rebuilt the stairs to grade, ensuring the top stair sits flush with the deck surface, matching the original layout and providing a seamless entry and exit point. To keep the space underneath the deck neat and enclosed, our crew installed white vinyl lattice skirting along the base, complete with an access gate for convenience and storage.
Privacy was also a top priority for this project. We installed an 8-foot tall white privacy panel topped with classic white spindles, offering both visual interest and separation from neighboring yards.
