While traditional wood has been a staple in the decking industry for decades, it\u2019s certainly not the only option anymore! In fact, composite decking is the leading decking material for our Maryland customers. One of our knowledgeable Project Consultants, Andrew Vidulich, worked with homeowners in Arnold, Maryland to reimagine their expansive waterfront deck, landings, and staircase. By transitioning from wood decking to TimberTech Reserve composite decking, our Anne Arundel clients will definitely have to worry less about yearly maintenance and upkeep! Composite decking really is perfect choice for coastal living as it is built to withstand tough weather conditions. Andrew met with our clients to determine their vision for their deck, color and design options, and provide an overview of the decking materials and build process. Prior to our work, we helped to obtain a permit for the new deck. Generally, upon building a new deck for your home, you will be required to have a county permit. To obtain the permit, you need a copy of your property plat shows the property lines, and an indication of where the new deck will be constructed. You will also need a drawing of the deck to scale that clearly shows the dimensions of the deck, footer size and depth, beam size, joist size and spacing, decking material to be used, railing system and staircase location, if any.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were many components to this project, including the main deck, hot tub deck, and the steps and walkways. For the main deck, we kept the existing frame and replaced the decking and railings. For the hot tub deck, we also replaced the decking and railings, but saved as much as the existing frame and supports as possible. Our clients hired another contractor to complete all necessary hot tub work. Lastly, we demoed the existing steps and built a new frame to support the new, lengthy walkway down to the waterfront. For this extensive project, we kept the sizing and layout as close to the previous layout as possible. Main deck<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of wood decking for the replacement deck, we installed TimberTech Legacy composite decking in the Ashwood hue. All feature boards, risers, seam boards, and fascia are in matching Ashwood as well. TimberTech Legacy decking captures the essence of nature without the rigorous maintenance of wood. Defined by a textured hand-scraped finish and a complex blend of hues, no two boards in this collection are exactly alike and the premium polymer capped composite boards deliver real wood aesthetics you\u2019ll never have to sand, stain, or seal. Bronze Ultralox aluminum Victorian-style railing with standard balusters provides an elegant accent to the space. Sixteen bronze mini Vega lights safely illuminate the space at nighttime \u2014 a necessity with the large decking spaces and many steps down! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
