When a deck\u2019s structure is in good shape, but the the deck boards leave a lot to be desired, re-decking or resurfacing is an economical option for many of our Maryland homeowners \u2014 especially if you choose composite materials as an upgrade from rotting, molding, or warping wood. Other times, it might make more sense to just start from scratch, and build an entirely new deck using high quality pressure-treated wood to ensure everything is up to code and is expertly installed. Composite decking, and Trex in particular, is far more waterproof and will last for years without rotting, as wood is prone to do. With Trex decking, you can choose a color and style you love, and you\u2019ll be able to enjoy the look without worrying about re-painting or staining every year! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeff Gottleib, a Fence & Deck Connection Project Consultant, worked with homeowners in Frederick, Maryland to brighten up their back deck and give the space a more modern look. The new Trex deck matches perfectly with the home’s exterior and even has a similar deck board shade as the original deck\u2014 take a look at the before and after photos below!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We first demoed and hauled away the existing wood deck before constructing a new 25′ x 14′ pressure treated wood frame. We then installed Trex Select deck boards in the Saddle hue using hidden fasteners. Saddle is an easy-to-match shade of medium brown, featuring a low-maintenance, wood-like grain pattern. Decking from the Select collection is budget friendly composite decking, with the perfect pairing of price and minimal maintenance. It\u2019s made of affordable high-performance composite that won\u2019t rot, warp, splinter. Plus, its protective outer shell resists fading and staining. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We then installed white vinyl Washington-style railing with black round aluminum balusters. Similar to the original deck, we enclosed the bottom of the deck with white vinyl lattice, including one convenient access gate. We also trimmed the fascia of the deck and the sides of both sets of steps with white vinyl for a clean, polished look. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
