Each month, we like to feature a large fence or deck project that completely transforms the look of a home and its landscape. For December’s project, we’re pleased to present a combination project! The installation of this Alumi-Guard aluminum fence and free-standing composite deck was completed in Eastport, Maryland, just steps away from the water and Annapolis proper. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
John Gallagher and our Fence & Deck design and production team helped to beautify the front and backyards of the nautical home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our hardworking installation crews installed approximately 110′ of 3′ high Victoria-style 3-rail Alumi-Guard aluminum railing with triad finials. All posts were 2″ set into the ground and set in bottoms. For mowing purposes, the bottoms are standard exposed pickets set 2-3 inches above grade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Free-standing decks are self-supporting and do not use the adjacent house for support. Despite its distance, free-standing decks offer a more unique designated space for entertainment and relaxation. For this Eastport home, we installed 390 sq. ft. of TimberTech Reserve decking in Storm Gray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
6″ by 6″ upright supports were set on top of 10″ precast concrete footers and 2″ x 10″ deck beams were set on top of pre-notched footer supports. Joists are 2\u201dx 8\u201d or 2\u201dx 10\u201d spaced 16\u201d on center, and attached to a ledger board with joist hangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For a more finished look, the new space has a Story Gray frame board with a seam board placed in the middle. White vinyl fascia wraps the entirety of the deck to polish it off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
To match the new fencing in the front and side yard, we used UltraLox black aluminum railings with 3″ posts and Victorian-tyle cap rails between posts. The matching deck railing brings together a cohesive outdoor design nicely. A set of steps near the garage-side door wrap the corner of the deck and lastly, we installed a custom 12′ x 18″ bench to match the Storm Gray decking. It offers a great little seating area or room for plants or seasonal decor! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
