Each month, we like to feature a beautiful fence or deck project from many of our service areas throughout the state of Maryland. For March, we’re excited to feature this free-standing composite deck in Arnold, Maryland. One of our experienced Project Consultants, Kevin Bullion, along with our Fence & Deck design and production team helped to transition this warped wood deck into a more maintenance-free outdoor space that will be enjoyed for years to come.
Before Switching to Composite Decking
Kevin met with our clients to learn more about their vision for their updated deck, and to inform them of the various design possibilities using composite materials. In addition to the array of color options to choose from, composite decking offers numerous benefits — you won’t need to worry about sanding, staining, or painting ever again!
Once the plans were in place and our clients removed and hauled away the existing wood deck, we installed approximately 352 sq. ft. of TimberTech Reserve decking in Storm Gray. Inspired by reclaimed wood, the heavy wire-brushed, low-gloss finish showcases the classic cathedral wood grain pattern on these resilient boards. This type of decking is extremely resistant to moisture intrusion as there are no wood or mineral fillers in the cap. Additionally, it’s designed to retain color, so you can enjoy the vivid hue for many, many years!
Matching Storm Gray textured fascia wraps the deck’s perimeter, giving the new space a more uniform, finished look. Black Colonial-style UltraLox aluminum railing and balusters enclose the space for safety and definition — a nice contrast to the lighter gray deck boards. To complete the project, we installed one 4′ wide set of set steps off one of the deck’s corner, and another set of 6′ wide steps off of the deck.
