Makeover Monday: Gorgeous Ipe Decking in Gambrills, Maryland

Ipe (pronounced “e-pay”), also known as Brazilian Walnut, is the most sought after tropical hardwood decking in the United States today. Typically used for decking, docks and other outdoor applications, Ipe is one of the most dense, durable hardwoods in the world, making it the gold standard for fine exterior decking.

Homeowners in Gambrills, Maryland contacted Fence & Deck Connection to install not one, but two Ipe decks to complete their outdoor space! Instead of a larger deck accessible from two sets of sliding doors on either side of the house, our clients had a vision for a more unique outdoor space. Prior to installation, homeowners had a beautiful patio installed, which will serve as the main space for gathering and entertaining.

Kevin Bullion, one of Fence & Deck Connection’s knowledgable Project Consultants helped design the two decks with our client’s vision in mind.

Before:

We first removed and hauled away the existing decks, before constructing the framework for two 6′ x 8′ free standing decks. Before we completed the decks, our clients installed their beautiful brand new patio.

We then came back to finish the job, installing 96 sq. ft. of Ipe decking using hidden fasteners on each deck. The landings are safely enclosed with white vinyl Washington-style railings, handrail, and black square aluminum balusters. White textured vinyl fascia and white vinyl sleeves on the support posts offer a clean, finished look. Last but not least, two sets of 8′ wide steps lead down to the paver patio. The new decks are insanely gorgeous and are an incredible accent to the patio!
