Makeover Monday: Trex Deck in Finksburg, Maryland

To close out the month of March, we’re featuring a beautiful deck makeover in Carroll County – just one of the many of the areas we service in the state of Maryland! Jeff Gottleib, one of our experienced Project Consultants, met with homeowners in Finksburg, Maryland to upgrade their outdated wood deck with modern, composite materials that beautifully update and accent the home’s exterior.

Before: Outdated Wood Deck

We first removed the existing pressure treated decking boards, railing and steps, leaving the overall supporting structure in tact. During our onsite estimate appointments, our Project Consultants can determine if any part of the existing deck is structurally sound to build upon. While “starting from scratch” is a popular option, many homeowners choose to use the original frame and support posts, which can be more budget friendly.

We then installed Trex Select Saddle decking using hidden fasteners, with a seam board running down the center of the deck. Trex’s Saddle color option is a sunny medium brown with an easy-to-maintain, wood-like grain pattern. It’s a beautiful backdrop for summer furniture and accessories!

To safely enclose the new deck, we installed white vinyl Washington-style railing with black round aluminum balusters — a classic option that pairs well with virally any color decking. One set of 5′ wide steps lead down to the spacious backyard. A 1.5″ ADA handrail was placed on either side of the stairs. In slick or slippery winter weather, a sturdy handrail prevents homeowners and guests from taking painful and embarrassing falls. They are great for balance, especially for the disable or elderly — an ADA compliant handrail can be the difference between a comfortable walk up the stairs and a terrible injury!
