Pressure treated wood decks were once the staple of an elevated backyard space. Not only are they economical, but they can last up to 15 years or so with the proper maintenance. While that sounds like a solid option, the key is keeping up with that maintenance. Unlike composite decking, pressure treated wood can mold, rot, and warp, and must be cleaned and power-washed regularly. Plus, if you want a stained look, stains and a sealant must be reapplied as the sun bleaches the wood over time.
Homeowners in Columbia, Maryland reached out to Fence & Deck Connection looking to upgrade their old wood decking to composite material that will last decades with far less required maintenance. Project Consultant Andrew Vidulich helped design a charming composite deck using TimberTech composite material that fits nicely with the home’s exterior with a clean and modern aesthetic!
Before:
We first removed and hauled away the existing wood deck, before raising a new structure to support 488 sq. ft of TimberTech Edge Prime+ decking in Sea Salt Grey. TimberTech Edge Prime+ brings affordable, beautifully monochromatic decking to your outdoor living space with moderately varied hues. Featuring a subtle, straight grain pattern, the long-lasting, scalloped decking in this collection creates an authentic wood visual that is sure to impress. For a clean, polished appearance, we used color matching screws on seam boards and steps, and any areas hidden fasteners were unable to be used.
While vinyl railings with round black aluminum balusters enclose the new space, as well as a Sea Salt Gray feature board. A new set of 8 steps with matching Sea Salt Gray decking and white risers provides access to the backyard. To ensure the space can be safely enjoyed at nighttime, white Saturn Anello post cap lights and black Corona riser lights were included with this project’s lighting package.
