Project of the Month: Multi-level TimberTech deck in Ellicott City, Maryland

Looks can be deceiving, especially when it comes to decking. While some homeowners believe their deck needs complete replacing, sometimes it just needs a little TLC — especially wood decking. Power washing, sanding, staining, and sealing can go a long way! Other times, a deck may look almost brand new, but depending on the way it was built, may not last as long as it should.

Homeowners in Ellicott City came to Fence & Deck Connection when their original deck’s joists were rotting. Project Consultant Chad Costello worked with our clients to recreate their existing deck using the tried and trusted Fence & Deck Connection process and superior craftsmanship backed by our lifetime structural warranty. The new deck looks beautiful and will last for years to come!

We first removed and hauled away the existing decking before constructing building a structure to support brand new composite decking. The deck was designed almost exactly like the previous deck, sure to incorporate the unique octagonal shape that offers a perfect little nook for conversing with close friends or family. We replaced the previous deck boards with 635 sq. ft. of TimberTech Edge Prime+ composite decking.

TimberTech Edge Prime+ brings affordable, beautifully monochromatic decking to your outdoor living space with moderately varied hues. Featuring a subtle, straight grain pattern, the long-lasting, scalloped decking in this collection creates an authentic wood visual that is sure to impress. In particular, Sea Salt Gray is a medium gray with warm and cool undertones to create a versatile, gently weathered wood look.

White Washington-style vinyl railings with New England post caps and black aluminum balusters replace the all white railing from the previous deck. White vinyl privacy lattice skirts the underside of the deck, keeping critters away and all posts (and whatever may be under the deck) hidden. Textured vinyl fascia wraps provide a clean, finished look along the perimeter of the new space.

The steps that separate the two deck levels are picture framed — a lovely design detail, as well as the two sets of steps that lead down to the backyard on either side of the deck. Both sets of stairs have a secure gate at the top of the landing. For a gorgeous after-dark ambiance, 10 black Nebula eyeball post lights were placed on the railing posts, and Corona LED riser lights provide a safe, well-lit walkway.

The new deck is a winner in our book, and our clients think so too!

“Absolutely beautiful deck! The family loves it, and even neighbors have commented on how nice it is. The workmanship is significantly better than the deck it replaced. We are thrilled!”
