Our team at Fence & Deck Connection recently had the pleasure of transforming a front porch and backyard deck into beautiful, modern outdoor spaces. This project was led by Project Consultant Kevin Bullion and Production Manager Ben Beares. With sturdy front porch railings and a back deck featuring Trex Enhance decking in the stunning Honey Grove hue, this Severn, Maryland family’s home got a major facelift!
FRONT PORCH BEFORE:

To kick things off, we handled all the necessary preparations, including the removal and hauling away of existing structure from the front and back areas. A key part of this project involved some meticulous labor: we temporarily supported the existing stand-alone roof structure to safely remove it, and then reinstalled it, being careful to replace a 4″ x 4″ post with a new, sturdier 6″ x 6″ post to perfectly match the home’s aesthetic. We then installed 26′ of 36″ tall white vinyl Washington-style railings with square black aluminum balusters on the home’s front porch using concrete porch mounts.
FRONT PORCH AFTER:

The new deck in the backyard is a testament to the blend of natural beauty and modern durability. We installed 288 sq. ft. of Trex Enhance Naturals decking in the Honey Grove hue. Honey Grove Browns, greys, and onyx black steaks harmonize into a warm, essential color with this beautiful new color option from Trex. Despite its budget-friendly price tag, Honey Grove includes Trex’s SunComfortable Technology that keeps surfaces up to 37 degrees cooler compared to their original boards! Like all Trex products, Honey Grove decking is low-maintenance, which means it cleans easily with just soap and water. Unlike real wood, it won’t rot, warp, or splinter.
BACK DECK BEFORE:

The rich Honey Grove decking provides a warm, inviting surface, while the white textured vinyl fascia and Carolina skirting give the deck a clean, crisp finish. Instead of traditional lattice skirting, Carolina deck skirting hides the structural supports, pipes, wiring, and other unsightly elements underneath the deck by using vertical or horizontal paneling. This helps create a clean and polished appearance, preventing these features from detracting from the deck’s beauty. By enclosing the space beneath the deck, skirting helps deter pests and critters from nesting or seeking shelter underneath. The skirting, designed to be under 48 inches high, includes one access point for convenient storage underneath the deck.
We installed the same railing system as the new front porch, as well as two sets of 4-foot wide steps to grade, providing easy access to the yard. This project perfectly showcases how the right materials and expert craftsmanship can come together to create a beautiful, functional, and long-lasting outdoor oasis!
