The last Makeover Monday for the month of April comes out of Howard County, Maryland! Andrew Vidulich, a Fence & Deck Connection Project Consultant, met with our clients in Columbia during their free onsite estimate appointment to discuss design, layout, and color options for their brand new deck. The decision was made to replace the deck using composite material, which requires far less maintenance and will last for years to come. An added pergola also provides a lovely shaded area to dine and entertain. Take a look at the transformation below!
Before: Old Wood Deck in Columbia, Maryland
Our fast working and talented crews first removed and hauled away the existing wood deck, before getting to work on the beautiful brand new outdoor space. With a new support structure, we then installed approximately 408 sq. ft. of Trex Enhance composite decking in the the Foggy Wharf color. This modern neutral blends salty grey hues with shades of dark silver, featuring a low-maintenance, wood-like grain pattern.
For an additional and complementing design element, we installed Clam Shell decking for the seam board, feature boards, and step treads. Clam Shell is an easy-to-match shade of medium grey and offers a nice contrast to the lighter grey decking. Foggy Wharf step risers and facia wrap complete the cool toned, modern look and black Ultralox aluminum Victorian-style railings safely enclosed the raised deck, in additional to a gate at the top of the stairs.
A 12′ x 14′ white vinyl pergola was designed for one section of the deck, attached to the house and railings. This large pergola is a a beautiful deck accessory that serves many purposes! Pergolas are a great way to extend your living space and can increase the amount of time you spend outside on warm, sunny days in the middle of a Maryland summer. Designed and oriented correctly on your deck, a pergola can provide plenty of shade for dinner parties, book reading, or a “work from home” office location. You may also install additional covers, for even more sun protection or in preparation for unpredictable summer storms, such as fabric or a retractable cover.
