Makeover Monday: Balcony and Small Deck Replacement in Severna Park, Maryland

We often showcase some of our larger projects on the blog for our “Makeover Monday” or “Project of the Month” features, but smaller spaces deserve some love too! Every home is unique and it’s always a pleasure to help homeowners work within their individual spaces and budgets to create the perfect outdoor escape.

This week’s Makeover Monday is a multi-deck and railing project out of Anne Arundel County. Our Severna Park clients wanted to upgrade their deck landings, and well as their second-story balcony. The balcony was in poor shape, and definitely not suitable or safe for use. Tracy Ours, one of Fence & Deck Connection’s experienced Project Consultants helped design new decking spaces spaces that match nicely with the home’s exterior.

Before:

We first removed all deck boards and railings from the side deck, upper deck balcony, and removed the small landing entirely. We then constructed a new 3′ x 44″ landing off of the sunroom, a 12′ x 5’6″ side deck and a 4′ x 8′ balcony deck using TimberTech Reserve decking in Antique Roast with Dark Roast feature boards. Antique Leader is a rich, golden wood aesthetic that gives a space inviting sandy beach tones. Dark Roast is a great complementary tone — a defined espresso brown with dark and light markings for a varied, character-rich wood aesthetic.

All new Washington-style railings are a classic, modern look with white vinyl and black aluminum balusters. The railing installed on the left side of the basement walkout also includes a grab rail, a nice additional safety feature. Textured white vinyl fascia offers another intentional decorative feature, for a polished finish!
