Small Screened Porch in Columbia, Maryland: Makeover Monday

While we often feature large screened porch projects, this week’s #MakeoverMonday is a unique compact solution for Columbia, Maryland homeowners who dreamed of a functional home addition. Despite its size, the screened enclosure provides protection from the elements, shielding our clients from harsh sun, unpredictable rain showers, and gusty winds that are common during our springs and summers. This means that whether it’s a scorching summer day or a chilly autumn evening, a screened porch remains a comfortable retreat for relaxation or entertaining guests.

Before: Small Wood Deck Without Screened Porch

After: Small Screened Porch with TimberTech Dark Cocoa Decking

We first demoed and hauled away the existing small wooden deck, before replacing the space with 137 sq. ft. of TimberTech decking, which includes a small screened porch and an uncovered landing. The new deck was building using TimberTech Edge Prime+ decking in the Dark Cocoa hue. As one of our stock boards, TimberTech Edge Prime+ Dark Cocoa offers the simple, traditional wood look you love without the rigorous maintenance of wood. Featuring subtle color blending and a rift- and quarter-sawn straight grain pattern, the lighter weight scalloped profile premium polymer capped composite boards deliver real wood aesthetics you’ll never have to sand, stain, or seal. Bronze Alta-style Ultralox railings provide a stunning accent to the tan fascia wraps and chocolatey tones of the Dark Cocoa boards.

For the screened porch in particular, we installed Bronze SCREENEZE and Super Screen, a Bronze PCA- 100 screened door, and shingles matching as close as possible to the home’s roof. On the exterior of the porch, we installed dark brown gutters, dark brown fascia, and PVC wraps on the 6×6 roof supports. The interior of the small porch was designed with Tongue and Groove pine finished ceiling. Ou customers provided their own ceiling fan, which will make for cool, breezy afternoons in the heat of Maryland spring and summers.
