Come summer time in Maryland, a deck provides a perfect space to relax by the pool, whether you’re sunbathing on a lounge chair, reading a book, or enjoying a refreshing drink. The flat, smooth surface is comfortable and safe, creating a designated area for unwinding. If your deck is out of code for pool code compliance, however, it’s crucial to redo it to ensure both safety and legal protection. Pool codes are in place to prevent accidents, especially around the pool area where the risk of falls or injuries is heightened. An outdated or non-compliant deck can pose serious risks, not just to those using the pool, but also in terms of potential fines or legal issues.
Updating your deck to meet current pool codes helps create a safer, more secure environment for everyone, ensuring that railings, stairs, and other structural elements are up to standard. Plus, a code-compliant deck adds value to your property, making it more attractive to potential buyers who value safety and peace of mind. It’s an investment in both the functionality and longevity of your outdoor space, ensuring it serves your family for years to come. Homeowners in Westminster, Maryland worked with Project Consultant Chad Costello to re-design their existing deck using expertly crafted materials and pool code compliant construction!
Before:

Homeowners opted to remove the existing deck, ramp, and railing and gating system that was outdated and not up to current code for pool safety prior to installation. We then installed a new freestanding structure that supports 308 sq. ft. of Trex Transcend Lineage decking in the Jasper hue. A deep shade of mocha, Jasper is reminiscent of old-growth forests and rocky mountainsides, with its rich umber hue and delicate streaking. The Trex Lineage line is comprised of lighter, calming tones with subtle streaking, and is specifically engineered to to be cooler under the sun. As with all Trex decking, the Lineage line is from an innovative blend of 95% reclaimed wood and plastic film, and its low-maintenance material cleans easily with just soap and water!
White Washington-style vinyl railing with round black aluminum balusters encloses the new space, with white fascia boat wrapping all sides of the deck. One set of stairs leads down to the yard, while another small set of steps replaces the ramp and leads down to the pool area. The new 48″ tall gate with a proper pool code latch keeps children and pets safe.
