A Stunning Summer Escape: Trex Enhance Deck & Covered Porch Project in Linthicum Heights

When it comes to outdoor spaces, the goal isn’t just to build a deck. It’s to create a destination. For this recent backyard transformation in Linthicum Heights, Maryland our client wanted more than a surface to stand on. They wanted a space that felt like a natural extension of their home, blending comfort, style, and lasting durability. From removing an aging structure to constructing a fully upgraded deck with a covered porch, this project was all about reimagining what a backyard can be. Thanks to Project Consultant Jeff Gottleib and Production Manager Carl Schmidt, this screenless covered porch is a space our customers will enjoy for years to come!

BEFORE:

Our project began with a full removal and haul-away of the client’s existing deck and steps. The original structure had served its time and was ready for a refresh, both in style and structure. Once cleared, our team was able to start fresh with a solid new foundation. We constructed a 35’ by 14’ pressure-treated wood frame, complete with a 4×4 landing off the front. This newly built frame laid the groundwork for a durable and long-lasting outdoor space, designed with both form and function in mind.

To give the deck a crisp, coastal-inspired look, we installed Trex Enhance decking in the Rocky Harbor color — a popular choice for its soft gray tones and subtle woodgrain texture. Not only is it beautiful, but it’s also low-maintenance, resisting fading, staining, and mold. To elevate the design, we installed a seam board across the covered area and added a picture frame border using the same Rocky Harbor decking. These details added dimension and visual interest, giving the space a clean, finished look from every angle.

We installed white vinyl railings with black round aluminum balusters, a classic yet contemporary combination that offers safety and security. The entire perimeter of the deck was trimmed in white PVC fascia, including the deck sides and the support posts, which were also wrapped in white vinyl. Support beams were wrapped in matching white PVC to maintain a seamless aesthetic throughout the structure.

A major highlight of this project was the construction of a 21’ by 14’ gable-style roof over a portion of the deck. This covered area not only provides protection from the elements, but also defines an inviting space for outdoor dining, lounging, or hosting guests. The gable roof was finished with shingles carefully selected to match the home’s existing roof, ensuring a cohesive and polished appearance. We also installed gutters and downspouts to manage water runoff effectively. To complete the covered space, the ceiling was finished with a white beadboard finish, adding texture and a clean, coastal aesthetic to the room. We also installed a ceiling fan hookup, allowing the homeowner to install their fan of choice for comfort during warmer months. For a crisp, uniform finish, all 6×6 support posts and the roof headers were wrapped in white PVC. The front gable was left open, allowing natural light to pour in while maintaining airflow and an airy atmosphere.
