Project Details
Location: Shady Side, MD
Materials Used:
-
298 feet of 6′ high Cedar Horizontal Fence with ½” spacing and black plastic post caps
-
8 feet of 5′ high Cedar Horizontal Fence with ½” spacing and black plastic post caps
-
(4) Walk Gates – (3) 4′ wide and (1) 5′ wide, all with standard hardware and spring-loaded closures
Before: Ready for a Refresh
The property originally featured aging vertical wood fencing that had become worn over time. The homeowners were looking for an upgrade that would provide a more modern aesthetic while still offering the privacy they needed for their yard. Our team first removed approximately 323 feet of the existing fence to make room for the new cedar horizontal design.

After: Sleek, Stylish, and Sturdy
The final result is a stunning transformation featuring 298 feet of 6′ high cedar fencing with ½” horizontal spacing, offering both privacy and a contemporary look. We also included an 8-foot section of 5′ high cedar horizontal fencing to accommodate areas with elevation changes or HOA height requirements.
Each fence section is topped with durable black plastic post caps, which provide a subtle contrast against the warm cedar tones while protecting the posts from weathering over time.
To ensure convenient access throughout the property, our team installed four walk gates: three at 4′ wide and one at 5′ wide. All gates were built to match the fence style and were equipped with standard hardware and spring-loaded hinges for automatic closure and security.

Why Choose a Horizontal Cedar Fence?
Horizontal fencing is gaining popularity for its modern appeal and design versatility. The natural beauty of cedar, combined with clean lines and consistent spacing, delivers a striking aesthetic that’s both functional and fashionable. Cedar is also naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insect damage, making it an ideal choice for Maryland’s climate.
We’re proud to have helped another homeowner fall in love with their outdoor space all over again. Whether you’re looking to upgrade your existing fence or begin a brand-new project, our team at Fence & Deck Connection is here to help from start to finish.
