Luxury Meets Low Maintenance in Columbia, MD: This Week’s Deck Makeover

This week’s Makeover Monday highlights a complete deck transformation focused on durability, safety, and elevated design. Our team, first led by Project Consultant Andrew Vidulich, replaced an outdated structure with a high-performance outdoor living space built for long-term enjoyment and minimal maintenance.

Before: Wood Deck with Lattice

The project began with the full removal and haul-away of the existing deck, allowing us to start fresh and ensure the new structure met current standards and the homeowner’s vision. We then installed approximately 548 sq. ft. of TimberTech Coconut Husk decking. TimberTech decking is a premium composite material that offers the natural look of wood without the ongoing upkeep. Coconut Husk is a bright, sunny tan color with dark and light golden tones to create an authentic light wood appearance.

The deck was finished with:

  • White PVC fascia wraps for a clean, seamless appearance

  • White PVC railing system with round black aluminum balusters, combining classic contrast with modern durability

  • A safety gate at the top of the steps for added peace of mind

  • Steps to grade with white risers and mitered ends, providing a custom, high-end finish

  • Integrated Lighting for Safety & Ambiance:

    • 10 white Mini Vega post lights installed on rail posts, complete with wiring and transformer

    • 4 black Corona riser lights installed on every other step to improve visibility after dark

After: TimberTech Coconut Husk Decking

To complete the space, we installed white 1” privacy lattice skirting around the base of the deck, including one access gate for convenient entry and maintenance. Prior to the build, our team managed the permitting process, with FDC obtaining all required permits, ensuring compliance and a smooth construction timeline. The homeowner provided the plat to finalize project details. The finished deck delivers a low-maintenance, visually striking outdoor space that enhances both daily living and property value.
