Wood Deck Replacement in Arnold, Maryland – Makeover Monday

While composite decks are a popular choice in Maryland, wood decks make a classic and charming statement for houses of all shapes and sizes. Unlike composite decking, wood will naturally deteriorate and be broken down by fungi and insects — all part of the life cycle using natural materials. Untreated wood will last roughly 5-7 years outside. Pressure treated wood decking, however, should last about 15 to 20 years and even more with proper maintenance, making it a great choice for homeowners looking for a more traditional, natural look aesthetic for their outdoor space.

Project Consultant Joel Lewis helped our Arnold clients reimagine their back deck using the highest quality wood decking, built with superior craftsmanship and backed by our Lifetime Structural Warranty!

Before:

We first removed 383 sq. ft. of the existing wood decking, framing and stairs, before installing new framing to support 236 sq. ft. of premium pressure-treated wood decking. Pressure-treated wood is wood that has been infused with chemical preservatives to protect the wood from rot and insects. The wood is placed in a depressurized holding tank that removes the air and replaces it with a preservative. As long as a homeowner spends time maintaining the deck – cleaning, sanding, staining and or painting – the deck should last for several years!

53′ feet of pressure treated wood fascia wraps the deck, and a 12′ seam board gives an appealing visual on the large open space. A popular decking trend, the new railing was installed using pressure treated wood railing with black aluminum balusters. The contrasting materials adds a touch of modern to the classic charm of wood outdoors spaces.
